Thailand CULTURE

Spirit House

Culture in Thailand has been influenced over the years from China, India and Cambodia along with the religions Animism, Hinduism and Buddhism. Today Thailand is 95% Buddhist with most Thai families and homes having small wooden houses to house spirits. It is believed that spirits will live in the houses and that small offerings will keep them happy. If they are not happy the spirits will enter the human homes and cause havoc. The presence of Buddhism in Thai society can be prominently seen with the large amounts of Temples populating the country. These temples are visually stunning and dream sights for travelers to see.

The cuisine in Thailand is light but full of contrasting flavor. In each dish it is common to taste a mixture of sour, sweet, salty and bitter all at once. The dishes and ingredients change when moving throughout the country’s four main regions and are also influenced by the neighboring countries.  Each meal is normally served as a single dish, or with rice.

Muay Thai fight

Muay Thai is the most popular marital art practiced in Thailand and is considered the country’s national sport. Mauy Thai uses a combination of kicks, punches and knee and elbow strikes to the opponent to win. Another sport native to Thailand is called Takraw. In this sport players hit a ball over a net only using their feet, knees, chest and head.
