Thailand Chiang Mai

Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep

Located high in amongst the highest mountains in the northern Thailand mountain ranges, Chiang Mai has grown to become a highly visited travel destination. Throughout history it has been an important city because of its stop on trading routes and location along the banks of the Ping River.  Like Bangkok, Chiang Mai has a large amount of stunning Buddhist Temples including the Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep, Wat Chiang Man and Wat Chedi Luang. The city also hosts a number of festivals throughout the year including Loi Kratong which is to celebrate the Thai lunar calendar. It normally falls in November with locals releasing floating lanterns into the night sky.
