One sport that jumps straight into the spotlight in India is Cricket. It is the country’s most popular sport, out ranking the official national sport of Field Hockey. Cricket is a sport common sport in Commonwealth countries because of its English origin, and is a ball-and-bat game played in summer between two teams of eleven. India is well known in the cricketing world as being a top team and tough competitor. The national Indian cricket team recently defeated Sri Lanka in 2011 to become the Cricket World Champions. Cricket is also commonly seen played by school aged kids on the streets and beaches throughout India.
