Streets of Mumbai

Once you push your way through the frantic traffic and jostling crowds you might find yourself faced with the more glamorous view of Mumbai. Skyscrapers and giant shopping malls line the streets of India’s financial capital along with fashion stores, trendy bars and restaurants. The film industry is also booming in Mumbai with the Hindu film industry, Bollywood being based in the city. They are hugely popular throughout India and in the past years have become more well-known in western countries. Positioned right beside these high end establishments are slums, obvious poverty and chaotic bazaars, showing the extreme differences in living conditions apparent in Mumbai.

Cave sculpture, Elephanta Island

Mumbai is not without its monuments and sightseeing destinations. Elephanta Island is located in the middle of Mumbai Harbor and should be on every traveller’s day trip destination list. On the Island there are Caves where sculptures have been carved out of the rock and a temple dedicated to Shiva.
