Culture in the USA
Due to large scale immigration, the United States is often referred to as the melting pot. This mix of cultures can be most clearly scene in New York City where over 800 languages are spoken. Even though a mix of cultures can be seen throughout the U.S., regional differences have developed over the years. The main regions of the U.S. are the Northeast, the South, the Midwest, and the West. The Northeast and the South have very distinct accents, while the Midwest and the West regions have the more traditional American accent that can be heard on most films and T.V. programs. In the southwest portion of the U.S., Spanish can be heard as often as English because of immigration from Latin America. Compared to most Western nations, the U.S. is one of the most religious countries. Family, work, and sports are cornerstones in American life, and are often the main topics of discussion. This is only a small slice of American culture, so make sure to travel around America to see it for yourself!
