Top Badestrände in Europa

Category: Europe Friday, May 11th, 2012 at 9:33 am

Take a stroll along Nice's Promenade

Relax on Red Beach in Greece

Budget city guide: London

Category: Europe Wednesday, April 25th, 2012 at 3:28 pm

London has gained an unfavourable reputation as one of Europe’s most expensive travel destinations despite being one of the world’s most visited cities with over 14 million visitors in 2011. However, the city still has plenty of attractions for the thrifty tourist that can guarantee an exciting and packed weekend on a budget. For those independent travellers looking for culture and entertainment at home rather than abroad, London is the ideal city break destination.

Where to stay: To ensure that you can see the best that London has to offer you need to make sure that you are staying centrally enough to be in easy reach of all of the attractions, whilst also ensuring that you don’t break the bank with a hotel room. If you’re anything like me, a comfy bed and clean shower are all I need so checking out backpacking hostels is a safe bet for comfort and cost. My favourite is the Green Man hostel, situated above the Green Man pub a stone’s throw away from Paddington station. At £20 a night it might be towards the high-end of your typical hostel price, but being above a traditional English pub gives this hostel plenty of charm and the ability to get drinks all night means you can bring the good times back to your hostel without having to worry about late night taxi fares. Plus, by ordering some late night Indian takeaway food, you’ll never need to leave the hostel after hours!

Where to go: London has an unbeatable reputation for museums and most of the famous ones including the Natural History museum, Imperial War museum and the National Art Gallery by Trafalgar square are all free to the public. Sightseeing has never been such an attraction as in London where Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, Tower Bridge and St Paul’s Cathedral all deserve some of your holiday snaps. However some more unique attractions such as Speaker’s Corner in Hyde Park, street performers in Covent Garden and Camden Market offer up a feast for all the sense without charging a penny! If you are willing to pay some attraction entrance prices then my advice is to budget which attractions are worth your time and money. Personally I found the London eye to be quite underwhelming considering the high entrance fee and London can be viewed just as well from a number of panoramic locations including The Monument (although the 331 steps to the top might put some off).

Where to eat: London is renowned for its food culture and the city has numerous Michelin starred restaurants however these will be out of range for budget-minded tourists. A great solution is to take advantage of London’s food markets such as in Brixton and Leadenhall, which sell a great range of ethnic cuisine and local produce. Once you’ve found some rich and diverse food for yourself why not sit down on the Southbank by Tower Bridge and watch boats, tourists and the rest of the world go by? Another great tip is to take in some great pub food in one of London’s hundreds of traditional pubs. The food is inexpensive and will give you enough energy to take in the city by foot or bike.

Getting around: Transport in London is expensive when compared to other major European cities such as Berlin, however if you purchase an Oyster card before you arrive then you’ll save an average of 20% on all transport prices across the city, regardless of whether you’re travelling by bus or tube. If the pre-charged amount on the card runs low then you can charge up the cards at numerous newsagents around the city.

Dream Living In London

Category: Around the world, Europe Thursday, April 12th, 2012 at 4:35 pm

London is a top metropolitan location, splashed with multicultural flavors in every district. Each neighborhood has a distinct air to it, and along with it different types of property and styles of architecture. In order to find the right kind of property that suits your personality, we have created list to make your dream travel destination a new home. You probably already know whether or not you will want to rent or purchase a vacation or permanent property. The next step is having to decide your budget, what kind of property in London you want, and the ideal location.

Here are some helpful hints to guide your way in the London real estate market:

1. Decide what you want for your property. Most importantly, this includes the budget. London is (really) expensive. If you want to live in central London, expect to pay a pretty penny. However, if you are willing to travel a bit further, you can get a lot more bang for your buck outside central London, but then you have to think about the transportation costs to get into the city center.

2. You should visit different neighborhoods to see which one you like the best. Be sure to visit a few websites that describe the area before you make your visit so you can make an informed decision.

3. Check the local newspaper for listings that match your criteria. If you are looking in central London, try to look at purpose-built blocks or converted houses.

4. Take note of the zone or post code of the property of the house that you are interested in. 1 stands for central London and the greater the number, the further away it is from the city center.

5. Find a good real estate agent, especially if you are moving in from abroad!

Wellness in Barcelona

Category: Europe Monday, March 12th, 2012 at 3:50 pm

Relax, relax, relax

A day of walking, shopping and sightseeing in Barcelona can make you really tired. There are so
many things to see and to do in this big city. When you visit the city you want to do as much as
possible and at the end of the day you are exhausted. There are some options to relax. Hotels
sometimes also provide a spa or wellness in their premises and it is also sometimes possible
that you can enjoy the spa in a hotel even when you are not a guest there. So when you are
staying at your apartment for example, why not take advantage of this luxury, but make sure
to call in advance to make an appoint. Of course there are plenty of places where you can get a
good massage or something else to relax you to the fullest. Below you will find some tips.

Relax, relax, relax

Spa Baths
Enjoy a day in the thermal waters of Barcelona´s finest spa. There are many different baths
you can enjoy, all with varying temperatures and therapeutic qualities. Some of us like it more
hot, while some of us like it when the water is a little bit colder, but if that was not enough you
can also savor a three course dinner. The session takes 2-3 hours and costs around €125 per
person.

Chocolate Massage
Who does not like chocolate? But if you are like the majority and you love chocolate, then you
should really try this. Your body will be massaged with a mix of chocolate and almond oil and
you can relax with the sweet aroma that fills your senses. Chocolate is a very good treatment
for your body and afterwards your body will be extremely soft. The massage will take one hour
and costs €85 for one person.

Stretch out and feel good

Yoga
Some people say this is the perfect way to relax. You will calm your mind while strengthening
you body. Yoga is an ancient Indian practice that provides numerous physical and mental
benefits such as a reduction in stress and anxiety and increase in strength and flexibility.
Through deep breathing and various sequences of different physical postures you can get in
shape, whilst your mind is silenced. The instructor will tell you what you need to do so you
do not need to have any experience to practice this and people of any age can do this. One
session takes 1 hour and costs around €35. The price depends on the total amount of people
who join the course.

Hammam and Massage
Hammam is an oriental bath and originally this treatment comes from Morocco. You get to
take a nice warm bath with some black peeling soap and afterwards you will be treated to a
sublime massage. This treatment is a combination of spa and massage. The session will take
1.5 hours and costs €80 per person.

There are many more different types of massages and ways to relax. This was just to give a few
examples of how good life can be in Barcelona.

Travel in Sweden

Category: Europe Tuesday, February 21st, 2012 at 10:13 am

Sweden is the third largest country in the European Union and one of the most beautiful. Of course, one cannot think of Sweden without being reminded of the world’s largest furniture company, IKEA. Made popular by its cost effectiveness, IKEA certainly has made our home needs easier and from its success, other furniture designer companies have followed suit.  Fashion For Home also offers designer furniture direct from the manufacturers. However, Sweden’s contribution to the world is far more than just bargain furniture.

Explore Lapland's Winter Wonderland

During the cold months it is a Winter Wonderland and its untouched wilderness remains its number one tourist attraction. Lapland has unique scenery and a stunning place to view the Aurora Borealis or Northern Lights. Situated in the far north of Sweden it is known as “Western Europe’s last wilderness” and is listed on UNESCO’s World Heritage List for its incredible nature and historic site for the Sami people that lived there for thousands of years.

Dog Sledding fun through Sweden

For a true adventure, Sweden is the place to try mushing your own team of Alaskan Huskies in the Swedish Mountains. Dog sledding through the winter snow forests and frozen fields of Sweden is one of the most exotic things one can do. Be prepared to spot reindeer, wolverines, arctic hares and if you are incredibly lucky, maybe a glimpse of the Arctic Fox as well.

If you’re happening to be dog sledding in Lapland, don’t forget about visiting the ICEHOTEL Located in the village of Jukkasjarvi, the ICEHOTEL has double rooms and suites contracted entirely of ice. Surprisingly, you won’t freeze to death staying here. The chill can’t penetrate the reindeer skin laid out on the bed and you’ll be provided with a down-filled sleeping bag.

Travel Spain Beach to Beach

Category: Europe Tuesday, January 31st, 2012 at 4:31 pm

Spain is the place to visit for beaches in Europe. Along the coast of Spain as well as the Balearic Islands boast the best holidays for sun, wind and surf.

Costa Dorada is also known as the Golden Coast and is a beautiful dream destination in Europe.  Southwest of Barcelona, this southern Catalonia coast has about 90 kilometers of wide sandy beaches, hidden dunes and amazingly blue oceans. It is a spectacular location for water sports, camping and outdoor activities. Conveniently located, Costa Dorada can be visited in a day trip from Barcelona.

Costa Brava is northeast of Spain which means it is cooler and wetter than the other coastal towns. In Costa Brava you can see that Spain was once a prominent Roman settlement as well as occupation by Visigoths, Greets and Arabs. The main attraction of Costa Brava is its coastline and the Banyoles Lake, along which situates the Santa Maria de Porqueres, a Romanesque church. The Fageda Beech Forest, a maze of exotic plants and flatlands which an impression of a natural fairyland is definitely worth a visit for those interested in flora and fauna.

Majorca is the largest of the Balearic Islands is a bustling hub of mountains, beautiful beaches, landscapes and affordable food. Majorca can be expensive but the further inland you go, the cheaper Majorca accommodation can be. Barcelona Point offer a range of affordable apartments and hotels within Majorca. If you want to get away from the bustle of Majorca, go exploring in more remote coastal areas. The island hosts several just as beautiful beaches but without the noise of tourism such as Magaluf Beach and Es Carbo Beach, a quieter alternative to the crowds in the Majorca strip. If you’re not afraid of heights, the Cap de Formentor, Majorca’s northern point offers specular scenery. The drive up can be scary, as the Cape can only be reached on a 13 km long windy and narrow road along the cliffs.
